Unlike a midwife, a doula does not provide any clinical support or perform any medical procedures. A doula is a birth support that provides expert guidance throughout the antenatal period and briefly postpartum.

The term doula literally translates as “servant to women”.
The art of doula-ing is an ancient practice dating back to Greek times, throughout the centuries, a doula was a mother, sister, aunty, grandmother, a close friend, or even a neighbour. Collectively, these women would come together to celebrate and hold the mother as she ventures through one of her most profound rites of passage, motherhood.
To this day, doulas hold this same strong belief. We are women supporting women, holding the space, and celebrating the mother in all her glory.

A midwife is a trained professional that provides clinical support to the birthing mother. A doula is strictly an advocate in the birth space who possesses knowledge and experience of all thing’s pregnancy, birth and beyond. They cannot perform any medical procedures.
